Background

Yayasan Kesehatan Bali (Yakeba) or Bali Health Foundation is a non-governmental organizations that have focused on the areas of public health issues. Yakeba established in April 1999 by an Australian resident named Bob Monkhouse. Initial idea of forming this organization is to help people who suffer from addiction in Bali, both drug and alcohol addiction. By providing the place for them to run and learn about the “Recovery” or resign from his addiction. Along the way, the problems faced by addicts increasingly complex. One is the spread of HIV, even now HIV is spreading not only among addicts but has already attacked to the general public. By looking at these problems, Yakeba now not only become a place to run recovery but more than that. Yakeba currently a center of information, referrals on the prevention, care, and support of HIV-AIDS and drug abuse. Therefore, since 2000 Yakeba has run several programs, among others:

  1. Harm Reduction Program among injecting Drugs Users
  2. Rehabilitation Program for drug Users
  3. Awareness Program among Student and Public
  4. A Peer-driven Support Program for drug users
  5. Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT)
  6. Prison Program
  7. Vocational skills for former drug users (KUBE)

Yakeba has also run several programs for high-risk communities, among others:

  1. Harm Reduction among the men sex with men (MSM)
  2. Stop TB
  3. A Peer-driven Support for people who infected with HIV

And in this 2010 Yakeba run some programs, among others:

  1. Awareness Program, supported by YKIP – ALF
  2. Rehabilitation for drug users, supported by YKIP – ALF
  3. Outreach Program to high risk populations for HIV in the region of Tabanan regency, supported by the Global Fund through the PKBI Bali
  4. A Peer-driven Support for people who infected with HIV in the region of Tabanan regency, supported by the Global Fund through PKBI Bali

Success story

Some success was achieved by Yakeba is getting an award from the Bali provincial government for the role of Yakeba to response HIV in Bali. Yakeba also been members of the network HIV AIDS organization and Harm Reduction in the regional, national, even international level. And the biggest success was achieved in 2008, Yakeba get RED RIBBON AWARD from UNAIDS.
